Josh Kerr shatters Mo Farah’s indoor two-mile record at the Millrose Games

Josh Kerr Breaks Mo Farah’s World Two-Mile Indoor Record

On February 11, 2024, 26-year-old Great Britain’s Josh Kerr made history at the Millrose Games in New York by breaking Mo Farah’s world two-mile indoor record. Kerr ran an impressive eight minutes 0.67 seconds, surpassing Farah’s previous mark of 8:03.40 set in 2015. The Olympic 1500m gold medallist expressed the difficulty of achieving such a feat, stating that “it was always going to be really tough, small margins.”

In the women’s two-mile race at the same event, fellow Scot Laura Muir set a new British indoor record, finishing in nine minutes and 4.84 seconds. Muir’s victory came after Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa was disqualified for cutting in too early on the opening lap. The 30-year-old Muir, who won the Wanamaker Mile at last year’s Millrose Games, is now eyeing the world indoor title in Glasgow next month.

Kerr and Muir’s outstanding performances added excitement to the Millrose Games, an annual indoor track and field meet that has a rich history dating back to 1908. The event has seen numerous world records and memorable moments over the years, solidifying its status as a prestigious competition in the track and field world.

In the men’s two-mile race, Kerr charged at the finish to defeat Grant Fisher, who set an American national record of 8:03.62. Kerr’s accomplishment is particularly significant as it comes nine years after Farah set the previous world indoor best at Birmingham.

Besides Kerr and Muir’s victories, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas also made history at the Millrose Games by setting a new world record in the women’s 60m hurdles. Charlton clocked 7.67 seconds, shaving 0.01 off the previous world record set by Sweden’s Susanna Kallur 16 years ago.

The performances at the Millrose Games underline the immense talent and competitive spirit in the track and field world, setting the stage for more thrilling competitions in the future.
