Cermak Fresh Market Found to Have Dead Mice and Live Cockroaches, According to Milwaukee Health Department

A Milwaukee grocery store faced temporary closure after multiple Health violations were found during a routine inspection by the Milwaukee Health Department. Cermak Fresh Market, located in Walkers Point near Barclay and Scott, was found to have 23 violations, including live roaches in the kitchen, dead mice in coolers and storage areas, and mouse droppings in various parts of the store.

Customers expressed their disappointment and disgust at the findings, with one patron stating, “It just sounds very unsanitary, that’s all. When there’s, like mouse droppings and things that are contaminated, it’s just not safe for people to eat or be around it.”

The closure has left many regular customers facing a tough decision on whether to return for groceries if the store reopens. “That’s questionable,” said one customer. “You have the one grocery store and you find this out, it’s disappointing and it makes it inconvenient.”

Another customer, who is pregnant, expressed concern for her safety, stating, “I’m pretty surprised that there’s stuff happening like this in this grocery store. I kind of want to be safe when what I eat. So hopefully things change for the better.”

The Milwaukee Health Department has given Cermak until February 20 to correct the violations, at which point a re-inspection will determine if the store can reopen.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene in food establishments, both for the safety of customers and the reputation of the Business. Customers expect and deserve a clean and safe environment when purchasing food products, and it is the responsibility of grocery stores to uphold these standards.
